In our daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
For the first time in over two weeks, the Pittsburgh Pirates had a day off yesterday, and it really couldn’t have come at a better time.
The Bucs are in the midst of yet another three game losing skid as they enter a weekend series with the New York Yankees with a 6-9 record on the season.
As I’ve pointed out in previous wake up calls this week, the Pirates offense has been a main point of concern in the last week while the pitching staff – including the bullpen – has been more than stellar in that span.
Just how bad has the club’s run production been to start the season? Take a look:
During a 162 game season, days off can be limited. They can be a hassle when you’re team is on a hot streak, but when a club is slumping, they can serve as an opportunity to regroup.
The Pirates really needed time to regroup as they return home to PNC Park for an interleague series beginning tonight. Not to mention they have also have to host the Chicago Cubs next week.
Tyler Glasnow returns to the mound tonight opposing CC Sabathia of the Yankees. Glasnow had a so-so outing against the Cubs last time out, but had some encouraging moments. It’s up to the young top prospect to help the Bucs turn things around this weekend as he’ll be followed by Jameson Taillon and Ivan Nova.
The nice day off yesterday served as a chance for the team to reenergize themselves coming in to the three game set. Hopefully it gave the entire team time to rest up a bit and refocus, because let’s face it, they could really use it.
