In our Daily Wake-Up Call, we get you ready for the day with a complete look at all things Pittsburgh Pirates.
The Pittsburgh Pirates had an off-day yesterday. As with all off-days during the long, grueling baseball season, it was much needed.

But for the Pirates specifically, the day off comes at a fortunate time, right before a brutal slate of games for the month of June. The Pittsburgh Pirates will face the Mets, Brewers, Rockies, Cubs, Rays, Orioles, Giants and Cardinals over the next 30 days.
Aside from a four-game series at PNC Park against the Miami Marlins, it can be argued that there is no “easy out” on the June schedule.
With that in mind, the day off yesterday was a boon for Clint Hurdle‘s club. Hurdle has historically shown a good ability to have his team ready to play after a down day throughout his tenure in Pittsburgh.
During that time, the Pirates are a combined 66-43 after an off day, according to teamrankings.com. That includes a 3-2 record in 2017-to-date, and a 13-6 record in 2016.
In the grand scheme of things, a team’s record in the game immediately after a day off does not amount to much. But for the 2017 Pittsburgh Pirates, any bit of good momentum would be largely welcomed, especially against New York Mets starter Matt Harvey, who frustrated Pirates bats lats week.
