The Pittsburgh Pirates take the Big Apple by storm, keep sharing the baseball love and are in serious need of new, customized sweatbands.
Striking Out Poverty
We’ve brought you a few articles at Pirates Breakdown on Gregory Polanco’s involvement with Food for the Hungry’s Striking out Hunger campaign. He’s initiated a new way to help raise money for these communities in his native Dominican Republic – by ponying up cash for each hit he gets for the Pittsburgh Pirates – and he’s asking fans to join him.
Pirates fans, I need help to end hunger & poverty in my country w/ @koutpoverty. Learn how @ https://t.co/c7q4UHvvD1 or @AthletesBrand pic.twitter.com/qxKzK1u8LP

We’ll have more on his challenge this week – but in the meantime, keep your fingers crossed that El Coffee can stay healthy – and hot – to raise some money to help others AND help his team.
A Team Rivalry?
Looks like a rivalry is brewing on the Pirates – a soccer one. Jose Osuna Insta-ed this from the Citi Field visitor’s clubhouse yesterday:

If you know anything about the Pirates off the field, you know that Juventus is catcher Francisco Cervelli’s team. Hope no one came to blows ; )
Calling all Crafty Types…
Andrew McCutchen needs you! He put this request out on Twitter last week. Help him out if you can, I’m guessing he’ll make it worth your time.
Does anyone know of anybody who can make me another one of these? pic.twitter.com/OdenyRgwWK

Nicest Guy in Baseball…
There’s no denying that Josh Harrison has a heart of gold and goes out of his way for fans. On the recent trip to Atlanta it was shining through:
Glad he had a great time! https://t.co/Dsdzkt1PiI

David Freese is giving him a run for his money, though. During the Atlanta series he hosted St. Louis-born rapper Murphy Lee and his family in the clubhouse.

Mad props to Murph for the shirt – although I think someone needed to trade Righteous for a better cap – LOL!
And it’s not just veteran players showing the love – Chad Kuhl took photos with fans in NYC:
What's 'cool' about comin to NYC? Meetin @KuhlWhhip_11! super nice (&tall) guy! Thanx 4 the pics!See you @Pirates game! #LetsGoBucs pic.twitter.com/h7AZo2JjUd

The Wives’ Trip
The New York swing was the Pirates designated Wives’ Trip in which the married members of the team and those working with them are invited to bring their wives along and the Pirates put together some fun activities. But given the injection of youth in the team of late, there are several un-married (that doesn’t mean they aren’t attached) guys on the team. Some of those guys toured the city together (as they are want to do anyway) and by the looks of it, were discussing plans for an offseason activity…

Trevor Williams’ son Isaac Made the trip as well and it looks like he and the old man hit the city in style…

But never fear – Isaac’s parents did get a night out on the town while in the Big Apple:

No word on whether or not Wade LeBlanc’s kids went to New York as well, but this clip from Root Sports Pitt was too cute not to post – and Dad’s self-deprecating comments are the best:

XO Venezuela
We talked a few Round-ups back about the political turmoil in Cervelli’s native Venezuela. Here he explains a little the situation there and why he’s speaking up:
"The media in Venezuela is controlled by the government, so no one has the chance to speak and say what's really happening." –@fran_cervelli pic.twitter.com/mAy24oyQao
— Outside the Lines (@OTLonESPN) May 30, 2017
Fellow Pirates Felipe Rivero, Elias Diaz and Jose Osuna are also from Venezuela and post videos of the protests and images of support on their social media feeds as well.
That’s all this week for the Pittsburgh Pirates Social Media Round-up. The Pirates try to take the series from the New York Mets at 1:10 p.m. today at Citi Field. Have a great weekend and #LetsGoBucs!
