Pittsburgh Pirates alumnus Kevin Young to host Hefty Flip Cup Challenge at PNC Park

Former Pittsburgh Pirates 1B Kevin Young will welcome fans to PNC Park on Saturday for the Hefty Flip Cup Challenge

The Pittsburgh Pirates do a great job of filling Federal Street with a fun atmosphere on game days. This Saturday will be no different.

Former Pirates first baseman – and current Pirates coach Kevin Young will help keep that tradition alive by hosting the Hefty Flip Cup Challenge.

Flip Cup, if you are unaware, is a game in which teams or individuals must compete to finish a line of drinks in cups while flipping over each one after drinking its content. Your author can reliably report that the game is great fun.

Hefty® Party Cups in partnership with select baseball stadiums from coast-to-coast, is pairing up the fun of baseball season with the chance for fans to participate in a flip cup tournament for bragging rights as the country’s Hefty® Flip Cup Champion. Residents and die-hard baseball fans alike from three major U.S. cities — Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Los Angeles — can compete in the Hefty® Flip Cup Challenge throughout the months of June and July. Winning teams from each city will be rewarded a chance to participate in the all-expense paid trip to the Hefty® Flip Cup Finals in Miami during the Midsummer Classic. These exciting events reflect the spirit of fun and camaraderie symbolized by Hefty® Party Cups.

“In 2016 Hefty® Party Cups set the world record by hosting the worlds largest flip cup game in Chicago,” said Carlee Bilello, Senior Marketing Communications Manager, Hefty® Tableware. “We aim to build on that success by bringing the flip cup tournament to more cities across the U.S., and inviting more fans to Party Hefty®.”

Hefty® Party Cups will kick off the multi-city tournament on Saturday, June 17 at PNC Park in Pittsburgh with Steel City’s very own Roberto Clemente Award Winning first baseman, Kevin Young, giving fans a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to meet the former professional baseball player. Following the tournament’s kickoff, additional pop-up flip cup games will take place on Saturday, June 24, at Ballpark Village in St. Louis with an appearance by former World Series champion Brad Thompson, as well as a game on Saturday, July 1 in Anaheim with a visit from Angels Hall of Famer Chuck Finley.

“Being a part of the Hefty Flip Cup Challenge is an exciting opportunity to provide fans with some celebratory summer fun,” said Chuck Finley, former left-hander for the Anaheim Angels and 2009 Angels Hall of Fame inductee. “It’s always great to come back to the stadium, especially when I get the chance to interact with loyal fans.”

Just in time for the Hefty® Flip Cup Challenge, the brand is unveiling its new and improved cup which includes an updated modern design and enhanced grip area with contoured curves, making it the perfect cup to be used at each of the Flip Cup Tournament locations.
