Great news from camp today. Kings rookie power forward Hassan Whiteside returned to practice, albeit in a limited role. Whiteside went down in the first week of training camp with a strained left patella tendon and this is his first action since then. He is WAY behind but he might just be able to get some reps in before the end of camp. I was able to catch up with the big man:
TPP: Are you back?
HW: Yeah, I should be. I’m going to get a scan on my knee to see how it is tomorrow.
TPP: How is it feeling after a limited practice?
HW: It’s sore but I can still play on it.
TPP: Have you added anymore bulk since you haven’t been able to practice?
HW: No, I’m still at 250. They’ve been running me so much.

Coach Westphal addressed the Whiteside return in his post practice interview: “It was a good day today, we had Whiteside back today, at least for the 5 on 0 thing. He’s got a lot of catching up to do, but we all do.”
With Samuel Dalembert out, Whiteside really missed out on a golden opportunity to play a whole lot of minutes both in camp and pre-season. Seeing how well Darnell Jackson has played throughout camp, I have a tough time seeing Hassan being active to start the season and I wouldn’t count out a trip to the Kings NBDL affiliate in Reno for the young big man either.
Camp notes will be up soon after a late practice today.
