In what is a bit of a head scratcher, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee is reporting via twitter that the Kings will start second year player Omri Casspi at the small forward over the incumbent Donté Greene in tonight’s game against the New Jersey Nets.
I am not surprised at all that Casspi is starting, I’m just surprised that it came after one game. The pre-season battle for the starting small forward position between Greene and Casspi fizzled early when Westphal appeared sold that Casspi was a perfect bench scoring option. Greene came into camp at 260-pounds and admittedly out of shape. He is in shape now but lets see if that matters. The Kings have not only made a move with the starters but veteran wing, Antoine Wright is also active tonight. Is it possible that Greene has gone from starter to DNP-CD in one game? Whether it is Casspi, Greene or Wright, the job is the same- stay in the corner ready to shoot on offense and guard your man on defense.
