According to AOL Fan House D-League Blogger Scott Schroeder, the Sacramento Kings have made use of a new NBA/NBDL rule that allows a parent club to allocate waived players to their lower level affiliate.
Marcus Landry, the brother of the Kings Carl Landry, played well enough in camp to start the Kings open practice and first two pre-season games. The 6′-7″, 230-pound Landry turns 25 tomorrow. Assumed to be a long shot to make the roster in the beginning of camp, Marcus showed an ability to both defend and shoot well from the perimeter- almost stealing a roster spot in the mean time. He is a nice asset to have waiting in the wings.
Donald Sloan, an undrafted rookie out of Texas A&M, was the only Kings non-roster Las Vegas summer league player to get an invite to camp. He and J.R. Giddens were also the first cut from training camp. Sloan has the size at 6′-3″, 205-pounds, but he lacked the ability to stand out in a crowd that included Pooh Jeter, Luther Head and Joe Crawford. The NBDL is a perfect spot for Sloan to both get playing time and some much needed grooming at the point guard position.
The Kings have been reluctant to use the NBDL in the past. Geoff Petrie might be more inclined to use their Reno affiliate this year, now that former King and Warrior coach Eric Musselman is the coach.
