Kings G/F Antoine Wright was picked up and charged with a DUI last night in Rocklin, California. The Kings have an official media release, which can be found here. Here is the comment from Kings President of Basketball Operations, Geoff Petrie:
“We are extremely disappointed in the situation Antoine has created for himself and the organization. There certainly has been no shortage of education and/or resources made available to our players in regard to these types of dangerous behaviors. We will, however, respect his right of due process at this time.”
And here is Antoine Wright’s statement:
“I’m sorry for having gotten myself into this situation. I sincerely apologize to my teammates and coaches, the Sacramento Kings Organization, the Sacramento community and fans and my family.”
Needless to say, this is a major disappointment for Kings. Wright was brought in for his veteran leadership, which up until now, he had shown even though he has not been a part of the rotation. Wright has been a major influence on the practice court as of late for Kings second year starting small forward Omri Casspi, working with him on his three point shooting after practice. Wright was already buried on the bench and this certainly can’t help his case for minutes.
