First Quarter Recap
The Kings came out strong in the first, sporting yet another new starting line-up. This time around, DeMarcus Cousins and Beno Udrih joined Jason Thompson, Tyreke Evans and Donté Greene as starters. The Kings got off to a fast start, using the long ball by Donté Greene (10), the post play of DeMarcus Cousins (11) and the slashing of Tyreke Evans (14) to open up as much as a twelve point lead in the quarter. At the end of the first, the Kings held a surprising 9 point lead by shooting 60% from the field and an impressive 8 to 1 assist to turnover rate.

Second Quarter Recap
The Kings came out roaring again to start the second quarter. After scoring 10 in the first quarter, Donté Greene added another 9 in the first 7 minutes of the second- this time using the ally-oop as his weapon of choice. Dallas got on track by the mid-way point of the second, knocking the Kings lead down to 2 at the 4:00 mark. The pace slowed tremendously in the second, which surprisingly seemed to favor the uptempo Mavericks. Although the Kings led at half, their 1 point lead was a far cry from the once 12 point advantage. Dirk led the Mavericks’ charge with 19 points and 3 rebounds while Donté Greene chipped in a team high 19 for the Kings to match the Dallas star.

Third Quarter Recap
After getting their lunch handed to them last night in LA, the Kings look like the scrappy team that fought to win 25 games last season. DeMarcus Cousins went out early in the quarter with what Coach Westphal later described as getting “he took one in the shorts and needed to breath for a while.” DMC returned just before the three minute mark of the quarter after “shaking it off.” The Kings pushed the lead to 8 in the third before a series of poor decisions by Tyreke Evans. First Evans fouled Butler from behind for a clear path foul, then he compounded that moments later by fouling Jason Terry on a three point attempt. Shortly after, Evans threw the ball into the stands for his team leading 3rd turnover (of a team total of 5). After leading by as many as 8 in the third, the Kings went into the final quarter tied with the visiting Mavs.

Fourth Quarter Recap
The Kings are listless no more. Welcome to the show Francisco Garcia. The Kings veteran shooter sat the entire first half and then brought the noise in the fourth, hitting two three pointers and a lay-up in the first three minutes to push the Kings back to 7. The Kings had to go 5 on 8 to finish this one. After Dallas picked up their fourth team foul at the 9:00 mark of the fourth, they never got called for another one, even with the Kings going heavily inside to the post. At the 1:13 mark, the teams came out of a timeout tied at 101. The Kings still had a chance in the closing seconds when Jose Barea bricked two free throws that could have extended the Dallas lead to four. The Kings had one final chance to tie it up, but never got off a shot as Carl Landry drove and turned the ball over on an errant pass.

Player of the Game: Jason Terry. The Dallas reserve killed the Kings in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 of the Mavs final 25 points. The Kings had no answer for Terry’s quickness and he used it to continually get to the baseline for easy pull-up jumpers.
The Difference Maker: DeMarcus Cousins and Tyreke Evans. Although the Kings lost, both Cousins and Evans played extremely well. Cousins kicked in 17 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the year. Tyreke Evans looked like his old self, scoring 25 points and dishing out 8 assists. The young core of the Kings gave Dallas everything they could handle, but lost on inexperience tonight.
