In a slightly expected but none the less strange turn of events, Tyreke Evans’ brother Julius has announced via twitter that little Brother is shutting it down:
Just got done having a talk wit my brother @thetyrekeevans. It’s done! He’s out for a while.
He was asked how long Tyreke would be out and he replied “Until he’s 100%! not before”. This comes on the heals of Friday’s MRI that showed no structural damage, just a mild case of plantar fasciitis. The Kings have yet to release an official statement on the injury but Coach Westphal had this to say after the Kings loss to the Miami Heat last night when he was asked about Tyreke’s health:
Well, how did he look? I haven’t had a medical consultation but I have to say, if he was ok, usually he plays better than that. We’re concerned about his foot, he struggled.
Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee is reporting that Evans will miss the Kings 3-game road trip which begins Tuesday night in Houston and concludes Friday in New Orleans.
Losers of 15 of their last 17, the Kings might as well sit their young star and see if his injured left foot responds to rest. Evans isn’t helping the team in his current condition and the argument could be made that he has hurt team. Sometimes the bravest thing to do is take yourself out of the game until you’re completely healthy.
***Update:
Jason Jones has updated the situation via twitter and here is where the disconnect comes in:
According to the team, Tyreke Evans still hasn’t told them he’s not playing. They won’t deem him out until he says he’s out.
There are more layers to this story and as they unfold, we continue to update you.
