According to Fanhouse’s Sam Amick, the Sacramento Kings have suspended DeMarcus Cousins for an altercation with teammate Donté Greene, in which punches were allegedly thrown in the locker room following last night’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The news has come fast and furious from the one time Sacramento Kings beat writer, first via twitter and then in this post on Fanhouse. According to Amick, the call to remove Cousins from the team plane was made by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations, Geoff Petrie, who is away from the team scouting college players. According to the Bee’s Jason Jones via twitter:
@mr_jasonjones Jason JonesPetrie not expected back till around 2pm. Until the DeMarcus Cousins will wait in Sac for decision. Looking like he’ll miss tonight’s game.
Coach Westphal has stated many times how this team is a good group of players who really get along well. Maybe getting along really well isn’t the key to success. Over the last three games, the Kings have lost heart breakers to very high quality teams, with Tyreke Evans doing much of the ball handling down the stretch. Evans has the heart of a lion and may one day develop into the game finisher that the Kings so desperately need, but he is not there yet.
