Landry to New Orleans a done deal.

According to this official Sacramento Kings press release:

SACRAMENTO, CA, February 23, 2011 — The Sacramento Kings today acquired guard Marcus Thornton and cash considerations in a trade with the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for forward Carl Landry, it was announced by Kings’ President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie.

“We’re excited about acquiring Marcus Thornton,” said Petrie. “He brings a scorer’s mentality to our team and will certainly add an offensive threat to the backcourt with his ability to shoot from the perimeter. I think he’ll improve the look of our team offensively and we’re really excited about having him in Sacramento. I also want to thank Carl for his contribution here and wish him well in New Orleans.”

Thornton will help fill the void left by the injured Tyreke Evans, who is expected to miss at least three weeks after receiving the first of three corporeal shock wave treatments on his ailing left foot.

You can find the excellent scouting report by Michael Mcnamara of Hornets 24/7, on what Marcus Thornton brings to the Kings here and hopefully, we will have further comments from someone within the Kings organization very soon.

Many thanks go out to Carl Landry who has been nothing short of amazing to the media during his brief time as a King.  His candid conversations, hard work and dedication will be missed.  Good luck with the Hornets.
