The Sacramento Kings have added another guard to their roster. The team announced today in a press release that they’ve signed undrafted free agent Trent Lockett out of Marquette to a contract.
Lockett, a 6-5, 210-pound guard, averaged 7.0 points (.464 FG%, .375 3pt%, .545 FT%), 1.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 20.2 minutes per game in five games (started 1) for the Kings in the 2013 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas. Prior to NBA Summer League, Lockett was invited to Sacramento for a pre-draft workout on June 19, 2013.
As a senior at Marquette, Lockett averaged 7.0 points (.415 FG%, .333 3pt%, .752 FT%), 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 26.6 minutes per game in 2012-13. Prior to transferring to Marquette, Lockett played three seasons at Arizona State (2009-10 – 2011-12). As a freshman, he was named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team in 2009-10. In his sophomore campaign, Lockett earned Second Team All-Pac-10 accolades and First Team Pac-10 All-Academic honors in 2010-11. He was also named to Capital One Academic All-District 8 and First Team Pac-10 all-academic teams in his junior season in 2011-12.
Lockett’s Summer League stats didn’t raise any eyebrows, but his defensive play caught the attention of those who observed him in Las Vegas. The rookie out of Marquette was often times very vocal and active on defense during in his stint with the Kings’ Summer League team last month.
With the addition of Lockett, the Kings roster now stands at 15.
