LeFlore Magnet High School in Mobile, Alabama celebrated one of its own on Friday night, raising DeMarcus Cousins’ No. 15 Rattlers jersey to the rafters in a retirement ceremony.
“Officially a legend at Leflore High School,” Cousins tweeted on Saturday.
Former Sacramento Kings assistant coach Otis Hughley joined Cousins’ friends and family to commemorate the achievement. Hughley coached Cousins at LeFlore before joining the Kings for his star pupil’s rookie season in 2010.
“He sat exactly where you’re sitting many a day,” Hughley told the student body according to AL.com. “He was taught by the same incredible teachers as you are. … One day when you’re a doctor, lawyer, professional player, entrepreneur, the next generation will celebrate you.”
Cousins played his final two prep seasons at LeFlore, earning a McDonalds All-American selection, before moving on to Kentucky for a season and then the Kings.
His framed jersey will join Antonio Lang’s No. 22 in the LeFlore Magent gym. Lang graduated from LeFore in 1990, before starring at Duke and playing six seasons in the NBA.
