The Sacramento Kings third-year point guard is playing through injury in his shooting hand. Isaiah Thomas has been dealing with swelling and nagging pain in his left wrist after hurting it against the San Antonio Spurs on Feb. 1.
“It’s like a sprained ankle,” Thomas said after last night’s loss to the Golden State Warriors. “If you keep rolling it, it’s never gonna get better. To play basketball, I gotta follow through on my jump shot and pass and dribble. So I don’t think it’ll get better until after the season honestly.”
Earlier this week, Yahoo! Sports reported that Thomas has strained ligaments in his left hand that could potentially lead to him missing time. However, Thomas underwent an MRI on his wrist, which came back negative.
The 25-year-old guard doesn’t expect to miss any games due to the injury, but admits the injury has hindered his shooting and dribbling abilities.
“Yeah it’s swollen,” Thomas said. “But I’ma keep fighting, I’ma keep playing through it. There’s no excuses. If I can run, then I’ll be able to play.”
Since the injury occurred on Feb. 1, Thomas has averaged 23 points and 6.1 assists over the course of eight games. However, his 3-point shooting has clearly been affected and taken a dive. Thomas has shot just 25.7 percent from 3-point distance following the injury. For the season, the Kings veteran point guard is averaging 20.3 points and 6.3 assists in 34.4 minutes per contest.
