Throughout history, the NBA Draft Lottery has not been kind to the Sacramento Kings. In fact, they’ve moved up in the order just once out of their previous 18 appearances.
Their luck did not change today.
The ping pong balls weren’t kind to the Kings, who fell to the eighth spot in next month’s draft on Tuesday evening. It’s the second time in franchise history that the Kings will pick eighth in the NBA Draft. The last time the Kings held the eight overall pick, they drafted Brian Grant in 1994.
The Kings had just a 23.20 percent chance of falling back to the eighth spot in this year’s draft. At 28-54, they finished with the seventh-worst record in the NBA, meaning that they had the seventh best odds of winning this year’s No. 1 pick.
Sacramento fell victim to another lottery in which the Cleveland Cavaliers were big winners. The Cavs, who had a 1.7 percent chance of winning the lottery, leapfrogged eight teams to win the No. 1 overall pick. The Cavs have picked first in two of the last three year drafts.
