According to multiple reports, the Sacramento Kings met with sharpshooters Doug McDermott and Nik Stauskas Monday in Chicago. Both players fill a major point of emphasis for the Kings this offseason and are slated to go around where the Kings select at No. 8 in the upcoming NBA Draft.
McDermott is an incredible scorer, finishing his NCAA career in fifth place on the all-time scoring list. There are questions as to what position the 6-8 forward will play at the next level and whether he can hold his own on the defensive end. But, every team in the league could use a 44.9-percent shooter from behind the arc. At 22-years-old, the senior averaged 26.7 points and seven rebounds per game while playing for his father, Greg McDermott, at Creighton.
The 20-year-old Stauskas finished his sophomore season with the Wolverines, averaging 17.5 points per game on 44.2 percent shooting from long range. Like McDermott, there are questions about his lateral quickness and ability to defend at the NBA level. But at 6-5 and 205 lbs., the Michigan product has good size as a potential NBA shooting guard.
Despite the draft being just 10 days away, the Kings have yet to schedule another workout in Sacramento. News 10 was first to report the Kings’ meeting with McDermott while the Sacramento Bee added that they also met with Stauskas.
