Sacramento Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein was named to the 2016 USA Men’s Select Team, USA Basketball announced today. Cauley-Stein was recently named to the 2015-16 NBA All-Rookie Second Team after averaging 7.0 points (.563 FG%, .648 FT%), 5.3 rebounds, 1.00 blocks and 21.4 minutes per game in 66 games, of which he started 39.
// Not only is this great news for Cauley-Stein but for the Kings as well. Just when things begin to go well, something always seems to go wrong or bad for this organization.
They found out about the Darren Collison news last week and even though nothing is official yet, the entire idea of something negative resonated with them after taking so many positive steps in the right direction.
Today, the positive vibes are returning with Cauley-Stein being named to the Select Team. Gregg Popovich, who will take over as head coach of Team USA after Mike Krzyzewski retires this year, will oversee the Select Team.
I’m sure Cauley-Stein is stoked to work with a legendary coach such as Popovich. The 2016 Summer Olympics begin August 5th, 2016.
I can almost guarantee that Cauley-Stein will comeback a better player. He has worked hard this offseason and expects to have a huge year for the Kings. It’s obvious why Kings fans fell in love with this young man.
His work ethic and passion for the game bodes well with a city that works hard and wants to win.
