USF coach Willie Taggart received good news on Sunday evening when he was told that 3-star wide receiver Jernard Phillips out of Miami Central (Miami, Fla.) had committed to the Bulls.
Phillips, who stands at 5-foot-10, 165 pounds and ranks as the No. 162 player at his position for the recruiting class of 2017. He picked USF over Idaho, FIU, Southeast Missouri State, and Toledo, while gaining interest from other programs such as Cincinnati, Purdue, West Virginia, and more.

“Coach T was excited when I told him,” Phillips said, per 247Sports. “(Assistant coach Eric) Mathies said I can fit right in the system. He said I can catch short passes and get up the field quickly and get yardage for the Bulls. Coach (T.J.) Weist loved it when I told him, too.”
Phillips becomes the first member of USF’s 2017 class.
