Name: Gerald Meerschaert
Opponent: Jack Hermansson
Odds: +148 (bet $100 to win $148)
There are few times when I look to the odds and do a double take. Very few. Usually I can explain them away with the run a fighter is on or with an impressive performance against a underwhelming opponent, but this time I am genuinely stumped.
I thought for sure Gerald Meerschaert would come into this fight as an even money or possible a favorite. He’s 4-1 in the UFC with four finishes and two performance of the night bonuses. His only loss is to now top 10 light heavyweight Thiago Santos. Plus, his career outside the UFC is just as impressive. He had 32 fights including wins over Sid Wheeler, Sam Alvey and Chase Waldon.
Add all that experience to an insanely underrated ground game, all while going up against a guy who has half of his losses by submission, and it’s hard to understand these odds. So get them before they go down. (editor’s note: they have indeed gone down – they were at +216 when this article was written at the starting of the week)
