Former Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is one of the most popular available head coaches on the market, and the Cardinals may be attempting to move in on him, before others do. The Steve Wilks era is likely coming to an end, so the team will have a vacancy.
It was reported by Peter King of NBC Sports that the Cardinals have interest in McCarthy, which makes sense, given that he’s worked magic with young quarterbacks/young teams.
Not only that, King is hearing that McCarthy is interested in the job as well, and that he’d be willing to listen to the offer if the team officially reached out to him. Details below:
The Mike McCarthy stuff out there is interesting. I hear he likes Arizona and would be interested in exploring the job. I heard the Cardinals have interest as well, so we’ll see, assuming Steve Wilks is one-and-done there.
This makes a ton of sense, as the Cardinals will be looking to develop rookie quarterback Josh Rosen, and to make strides coaching up the offense that ranked dead-last in points per game (13.4). Not only that, the Cardinals are a small-market team, which is the type of fit that McCarthy excels in. It’s hard to see him in a place like The Big Apple, or another large city.
For now, the Cardinals are looking to close out the season with a win against the Seahawks in CenturyLink Field. We expect Seattle to be laying at least 10 points, although there’s no line yet, and you can get wagering advice from this website. It will be interesting to see what type of effort the Cardinals put forth against their divisional foe.
As for McCarthy, Arizona figures to be a great fit for him, and we won’t be surprised if they end up firing Wilks and giving him the job.
