Cowboy fans are a curious fan base. Dak Prescott is good, yet they love to hate him. Why? Because that’s how they are. They did the same to Tony Romo, until he retired, then they remembered how much they loved him.
After his first season in which he won Rookie of the Year, Prescott and the Cowboys fell off and missed the playoffs. This season, they were sitting at 3-4, and fans were already calling out Dak for his play.
But then Dallas went out and did something I thought they should have done during the draft- get a bonafide number one, wide receiver. They gave up a first rounder to Oakland for Amari Cooper just prior to their Monday Night match up against the Titans in Week 9.
Once Cooper arrived, Prescott and the Cowboys got hot, and it’s no coincidence. They finished 7-2 in the regular season after the trade, and beat Seattle on Saturday night to advance to the NFC Divisional playoffs next weekend.
Since the trade, Dak has fired off 15 touchdown passes while adding another five scores on the ground.
Against Seattle on Saturday, Dak threw one touchdown pass, ran for another, and converted a monster 3rd down and 14 with a quarterback draw for a first down that helped set up an Ezekiel Elliott rushing score to put Dallas up 24-14 with roughly two minutes to play. Dallas ended up winning the game 24-22.
Dak has won over his teammates, some media personnel, and yes perhaps even, some fellow Cowboy fans. He’s playing at an all-time high level right now, and it’s showing on the field. The Cowboys are now 8-2 since the Cooper trade and picked up their first playoff win with Dak Prescott under center.
