Nick Foles Magic showed its face once again on Sunday night, as the Eagles knocked off the top defense in the NFL, the Chicago Bears, on the road, in a 16-15 Wild Card weekend game.
Foles, who got on a historical roll that ended with a Super Bowl 52 win and MVP last year, found himself in a similar situation again this season when starter Carson Wentz was suffering from a back injury. Sitting at 6-7, Foles rallied the Eagles to three straight wins, making the playoffs in the season finale.
While the Eagles celebrated a chance to defend their championship title, the rest of the NFL looked on with caution at a possible repeat of the magic from last season with Nick Foles.
But then again, that was last year. The Eagles had a first round bye and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs; this year, the Eagles would have to win three straight road games to repeat.
To top that off, the road would start with a game at Chicago, a team that ranked with one of the top defensive units in the league, and finished 12-4.
That’s what everybody saw, myself included. Foles Magic was gonna end in the Windy City. Instead, it’s the Eagles rolling onto New Orleans after sneaking out a 16-15 win that included a 4th and goal touchdown pass from Foles to Golden Tate with a minute left to play.
And just like that, Foles Magic was back! But then again, it never really went anywhere.
Since taking over for the injured Wentz, all Foles has done, is guide the Eagles to their fourth straight win, three against playoff teams (Rams, Texans, and the Bears on Sunday).
There’s a saying that goes “Magic is something you make”. And Foles has done just that the last two seasons. He’s made magic, Nick Foles Magic. And while it breaks hearts, it also brings smiles to people around the league knowing that this is something special.
Foles Magic that is.
