Most undermatched teams will sometimes try to play man-to-man defense on the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team. Some will play a zone to try and slow them down.
Well the Towson Tigers had no answers for the outside game of the Huskies as UConn went on to an easy 92-31 win in front of 7,703 at the XL Center in Hartford, CT on Wednesday night.
UConn improves to 7-0 on the season while Towson falls to 4-2.
Bria Hartley led the way for the Huskies with 24 points and five assists with four steals. Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis added 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting, with her three misses on coming on three-point attempts (5-8). Tiffany Hayes chipped in with 16 points and four assists while Stefanie Dolson had 11 points and three assists.
Heather Buck came off the bench to lead the Huskies with eight rebounds to go along with her four points. Brianna Banks was the only Husky not to find the scoring column.
Towson was led by Camille Anderson’s nine points. Krystal Parnell added seven points while Tanish McTiller added six points. Deree Fooks and Destiny Shearin led the Tigers with four rebounds each.
It took the Huskies all of two minutes or so to put this one out of reach as they opened with a 10-0 run. They followed that up with a 24-8 run to take absolute command of this game.
They did with the three pointer as KML hit three during the stretch as well Hayes hit one as well.
UConn had gone to the inside early on but then struggled in their offense for a few plays. But once the outside game got going, Towson really had no answers for the Huskies.
But for most teams that play UConn, it’s good experience as they get ready for conference play. For Geno Auriemma’s Huskies, it’s a chance to work on their offense and defense as they prepare for league play and two tough upcoming non-conference matchups with Texas A&M and Baylor.
The first of those will come December 6th when they’ll host the Texas A&M Aggies in the Jimmy V Classic at the XL Center at 7 p.m.

Former Huskies Sue Bird and Kalana Greene were seen sitting behind the bench.
Caroline Doty was injured during the game. She suffered a head and neck injury after being taken down hard after a layup. She didn’t return to the game and stayed in the locker room for the second half. She is expected to be okay.
The starters for UConn were Bria Hartley, Caroline Doty, Tiffany Hayes, Kelly Faris and Stefanie Dolson.
The Huskies shot 60.3% (38-63) from the floor. Towson shot 24.5% (12-49).
UConn had 28 assists on their 38 made baskets.
The Huskies were 12-of-21 (57.1%) on three-pointers. Towson was 2-of-8 (25%).
UConn only got to the free throw line seven times, making four of them (57.1%).
The Huskies won the battle of the boards 38-28.
UConn outscored Towson 46-12 in the paint and 14-2 on the fast break.
The Huskies had seven second chance points to just two for Towson.
UConn had 42 points off of 30 Tigers turnovers. Towson had 13 points off of 16 Huskies turnovers.
