Here’s the release from UConn announcing that the three incoming freshman for the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team have been named to the 2012 All-USA Girls’ Basketball Team.
McLEAN, Va. (April 26, 2012) – Incoming University of Connecticut women’s basketball freshmen Breanna Stewart, Morgan Tuck and Moriah Jefferson have been named to the 2012 All-USA Girls’ Basketball Team, revealed by USA Today and HighSchoolSports.net Thursday morning.
All three future Huskies earned a spot on the All-USA first team. Stewart, a 6’3 center out of Cicero-North Syracuse, averaged 24.2 points as a senior, led her team to a second straight state championship and was also named the Player of the Year.
Tuck, a 6’2 forward out of Bolingbrook, and Jefferson, a 5’7 guard from Glenn Height, Texas, join Stewart on the first team. Tuck averaged 29 points and better than 10 rebounds per game, while Jefferson led the Texas Home Educators’ Sports Association team to a 41-6 record and a championship season by contributing more than 17 points and five steals per contest.
Rounding out the All-USA first team are Alexis Jones of MacArthur (Irving, TX), a Duke-bound guard who averaged 25.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 6.5 assists per game this season, and Tennessee signee forward Bashaara Graves of Clarksville (TN), who averaged more than 21 points and 11 rebounds per game while leading Clarksville to a 37-1 record and the state AAA semifinals.
