There’s no way to know how many ‘THIS COULD BE THE TURNING POINT OF THE SEASON’ articles/blogs were started then quickly abandoned in a 10-minute minute span earlier tonight.
My guess? More than a couple.
After the Cardinals blew a flat through 7 innings (trailing 6-1 to the very, very bad Reds), the boys punched back and scratched out 5 runs in the last two innings, ultimately tying the game in the top of the 9th.

From visions of 4 games over .500 and a second signature win in the span of three games to having to scratch out 2 consecutive wins to save a series against one of the worst teams in baseball.
Deep sigh.
Siegrist took some Twitter heat. So did Matheny. But the real culprit Tuesday night was… wait for it… starting pitching.
Mike Leake gave up 10 hits, 6 earned runs and 2 bombs to a team that started 1 player hitting over .280 for the season. 6 runs of offense should have been enough. But it wasn’t.
The can gets kicked a bit further down the road.
58 games in, friends. If anyone has any solid ideas on how to string together some quality starts, feel free to post them in the comment section below.
