NCAA Tournament Watch Day 1

Here are a couple things to watch for today as the NCAA Tournament gets started. Just like most college sports fans, the next two days at work are going to be dedicated to basketball and nothing else. Unless my boss is reading this blog, then I am working my ass off.

  1. What low seed is going to pull the big upset on day one?? Most experts are saying San Diego State will knock off Tennessee today, but I have a feeling Bruce Pearl will have his team ready. The SEC always gets a bad wrap when it comes tournament time, well except Kentucky.
  2. UTEP is my upset special for the day, they are 26-6 overall and played good basketball all year until their conference tournament. Look for them to give Butler a run.
  3. Richmond vs. St. Mary’sA battle of two mid major schools, both looking to make a big splash in the tournament. Most gamecocks are familiar with the spiders as we played them earlier in the season. Gauls big man Omar Samhan is a big guy, he should have a big game against the spiders. Guals need to watch out for David Gonzalvez, he can score a bunch of points in a hurry as the gamecocks found out.
  4. Can the SEC prove the nation wrong today by going 4-0 on the first day of the tournament?
  5. Names to watch out for today that you might not know, Anthony Johnson(Montana), Darington Hobson(New Mexico), Jimmer Fredette(BYU), Quincy Pondexter(Washington), Jordan Eglseder(Northern Iowa) and Karon Abraham(Robert Morris).

This is the best time of the year if you are a college basketball fan.

Kansas seems to be everybody’s favorite, even the President picked Jayhawks to win it all. I give him credit he picked UNC to win last year, but who didn’t.
