The USC Gamecocks will hold its’ 2010 Spring Game called the “Garnet and Black” game today at 4pm.
This will be a short session to entertain the fans, stretch the legs of the team and try a few different plays or scenarios.
The Black team (which will be wearing white pants) will be led by quarterbacks Stephen Garcia and Zac Brindise, while the Garnet team (which will be donning garnet pants) will be directed by Connor Shaw and Andrew Clifford.
All offensive players for both squads will wear garnet tops, while all defensive players will be dressed in white tops.
The first half will consist of two periods of 12 minutes each with the clock operated under normal game situations. The second half will have a running clock.
What does 5 things does LOHD want to see today? Well –
-
Some INTs from the Defense – not wishing for poor play from the quarterbacks but I want to see the USC secondary use stick’m on their gloves and get a pick or two today. The team needs to improve its INT ration in 2010. Marty Markett, I want to see you play big today.
-
Show me the “Wild Cock” – I hope Spurrier allows this scheme to be showcased today and not keep hidden until the season. The fans would love to see Gilmore run this attack and even Melvin Ingram get a hand-off up the middle. Heck, would be great to see a little option out of this scheme.
-
Go long and make some Deep Throws – I want to see homerun type throws today. Save those 5 yard button hook type passes for the season, let’s air this thing out Spurrier. Who cares if it is an INT as I want to see the QBs throw it long to Alshon, Moore, Gurley, etc.
-
Please show me there has been Improved Running and Blocking – seems pretty basic and easy but Carolina has had some issues with its running attack and its’ OL blocking. Today should be easy since the defense will not bring too much pressure. So I want to see the RB’s make some good cuts and choose the right running lanes. On the blocking side, I want to see the new zone blocking scheme at work. Just act like there has been progression with the OL please.
-
No injuries – please for the love of god don’t hurt each other today save the aggression for the fall season.
Well there you have it, nothing major or too high of expectations. Keep it simple, entertain the crowd, show progress and come out un-harmed. Do this and I can guarantee you the reader that USC does not lose today. Go Cocks!
