Cumbie Crime Disturbing and Example of Double Standard

I found this news story today – HERE – concerning the recent arrest of Clemson University senior reserve defensive tackle Jamie Cumbie interesting.  For two reasons mainly, the first is that the arrest was made on May 28th at 2am and it took until June 3rd for a story to show up and the second reason is the violent nature of the crime committed.

Mr. Cumbie hits like Mike Tyson, read this –

The victim, according to the report, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment of injuries including his nose broken in several places, six or seven facial fractures, numerous lacerations in the mouth, a hematoma of the right temple with swelling and bleeding of the brain, strained muscles in the neck and vertebra, two black eyes, a broken tooth, and two other teeth bent back into the gum.

Good lord!  That does not result from one punch kids.  Which begs the question, what provoked the attack as this is a scary violent beating.

Now back to the first question – why did it take from May 28th when the arrest was made until June 3rd to break a story like this?  Don’t tell me Memorial Day either.

The reason I ask this is because if this was the school in Columbia (which we love and you know what I am talking about), this would be front page material the morning of May 28th.

Numerous examples can be cited that when a USC player does wrong it is all over main stream media.  Clemson player does bad, well……okay the timing is right now due to the dust settling, coaches informed, media statement is prepared, etc so let’s let the media write the story.  Does Upstate media just suck that bad?  Does Clemson Police aid the situation a wee bit unlike the USC PD may?  Not advocating for that just curious as I ask myself why the difference in how criminal cases at the respected universities are handled when it involves a sports team member.

Just adds some fuel to the long questioned relationship between media and Clemson versus media and USC.  Something yet to be understood or truly explained why the double standard.
