By Order of the Governor today, July 1, has officially been designated Gamecocks Baseball National Champions Day.
By that same Order, a University of South Carolina flag was placed atop the Statehouse in Columbia to honor the University and the baseball team.
Also Coach Ray Tanner will be awared the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian award.
Per the Governor the award is being given to Ray “for his years of success on the ball field, his work with the Ray Tanner Foundation, and his dedicated service to the university and community at large.” We couldn’t agree more.
The celebration will continue tomorrow with ‘a good, old fashioned ticker-tape parade.’ The paragde will take place tomorrow at noon on Main Street from Calhoun Street south to The Capitol.
