Breaking News out of Nashville – Johnson Out

It looks like Columbia native and Vandy Football Head Coach Bobby Johnson has resigned.

The news broke just a few minutes ago on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville.  This comes as a complete surprise as Johnson was the second-longest tenured active head coach in the Southeastern Conference, behind only Mark Richtof Georgia before his resignation.  Johnson took over the Vandy program in December 2001 and in 2008 lead the commodores to their first bowl victory since 1955.

More news to follow as there is a press conference scheduled for 2:00pm to make the announcement official and name an interim head coach.

Could Robbie Caldwell be a candidate to take over?  Any idea on the reasoning to leave with VU practice 23 days away?
