So much for a slow summer involving USC Gamecocks football players. As we learned yesterday afternoon, Weslye Saunders in under investigation by the NCAA for possibly having contact with sports agent. The investigation stems from the current UNC investigation of current players Marvin Austin and Greg Little. Saunders is being looked at to see what he knows and if he is guilty in anyway.
So far we know that Saunders took a trip to south Florida this summer with Austin. Which is not a violation but the big question is – who paid for the trip? If an agent paid for the trip, then Saunders playing days at USC are as good as over. Once the NCAA has the records and receipts from the trip, we will know more. Lets just hope Weslye was smart enough to pay for the trip himself.
Saunders is a 6 foot-6 270 pound rising senior, who had 32 receptions for 353 yards and three touchdowns last season. We all know sometimes Wes is better known for off the field issues than on the field glory. But LOHD was hoping for Saunders to play a vital role in the Gamecocks offense this season as USC looks to win its first SEC East crown. If he is dismissed from the team, he will be greatly missed in my view. Justice Cunnigham is good but Wes is a wee bit better.
Lots of questions to be sorted out on this issue so stay tuned. Hope this matter gets resovled soon and Weslye is able to play and have a great senior year.
