Martez Smith, linebacker for Southern Miss, had a dream. A dream that had members on the defensive side of the ball for their team picking off USC qb Stephen Garcia. Not only picking it off but running it back for a touchdown.
Mr. Smith shared his dream with Clarionledger.com USM beat writer Patrick Magee, here is what he said –
Martez Smith had a dream the other night about the Sept. 2 season opener at South Carolina in an ESPN-televised contest.
“I had a dream two nights ago that (cornerback) Deron Wilson actually caught a pick,” Smith said. “When he caught the pick, a receiver was behind him fixing to tackle him and I said ‘Pitch it, pitch it!’ He pitched it back and I took it the rest of the way.”
Smith likes the idea of playing in the hostile environment of Columbia, S.C.
“Everybody is real pumped up about playing South Carolina,” Smith said. “To be honest with you, whether it’s 8,000 or 80,000, Southern Miss is going to be ready to play.”
I know I should not pay attention to this but it is just the latest example of some “smack talk” coming from USM. Seems the Golden Eagles do not respect the Gamecocks too much.
I know USM is not the easiest of easy games for Carolina but stop talking not sense like this. It is mighty early and you guys keep putting forth locker room material that will motivate the Gamecocks. I can see some talking the week of the game but to start this early seems to me a little unwise. USM is not even favored to win this game. Reminder – you are the underdog.
Now let’s stop talking about dreams that are not going to happen. Heck, I had a dream the other night that Spurrier’s boys laid down a 49-0 beatdown vs. USM. But it is not going to happen like that, just like Mr. Smith’s dream is not going to happen. USC will win this by only 2 touchdowns, which I am ok with to start the season.
