Gamecocks Recruiting: Big Day Today and a Update

The Gamecocks are, for what it seems, quietly going about putting together a great 2011 class.  Let’s try to bring you up to speed on some things happening.

The other day the Shrine Bowl 2010 South Carolina Team Roster was released and their are some future Gamecocks along with some potential Gamecocks listed, here is a breakdown:

Gamecock commits Shon Carson (RB), Ronnie Martin (DB), and Brandon Shell (OL) are listed as members of the Shrine Bowl rosters. As are potential Gamecock signees Jadeveon Clowney (DL), Jerell Adams (ATH), both the Gerald Dixons (DL), Phillip Dukes (DL), Shamier Jeffery (ATH), and Lateek Townsend (LB).

Listed last is Townsend for a reason.  Rumor on the street is he could commit this weekend as he is a strong lean to South Carolina.  He will be on a official visit this weekend after last weekend going to the other USC.  Ellis Johnson needs to do and say all the right things to land this highly talented linebacker.  The SC program needs a kid like this as he could come in a provide a instant spark in the LB corp for 2011.

Another to talk about is Clowney, the #1 recruit in America, that again will be at a SC game.  He is a game-changer folks that USC needs to land.  He could easily fill the shoes of Cliff Matthews after he graduates from SC this year.  He will be on a official visit.

A few other potential Gamecocks are in this weekend, LB Marquis Roberts and TE Rory Anderson from Georgia who are both considered heavy USC leans.  Also SC commit Martay Mattox, who signed as a QB but could play someplace else at SC will be in Columbia this weekend.

So not only is it about beating the Hogs on Saturday night, it is about putting forth the best effort on and off the field to make a lasting impression on these recruits.
