South Carolina safety DeVonte Holloman was arrested for DUI in Columbia, SC over the weekend.
Holloman, a two-year contributor in the defensive backfield for the Gamecocks, finished the 2010 season with 69 tackles, two interceptions and a forced fumble while appearing in all 14 of the Gamecocks games.
The incident happened at a sobriety check-point on George Rogers Boulevard near Bluff Road, which is close to Williams-Brice Stadium. At this check-point, Holloman was one of 12 people arrested for suspicion.
This is yet another blow to the defense as just the day before the team dismissed defensive back Victor Hampton for a violation of team rules. The University has not commented on the Holloman situation but it is likely a suspension will be involved due to school policy when players are arrested.
Let’s hope Holloman and others learn from this mistake.
