Hello Lightning fans!
My name is Benjamin Woodward, and welcome to my first post here at LightningShout. First off, I’d like to introduce myself to you all. As a lifelong fan of the game, it didn’t take long for me to get into blogging and hockey coverage once I finished high school. It all began with your basic WordPress blog, where I worked and wrote until I was able to latch on with a much more mature website. For the past three seasons I have been fortunate enough to cover the Boston Bruins as a credentialed media member, getting the chance to witness some of the best years in team history, all while taking in experiences I never thought possible as a wide-eyed 20-year-old in the press box. In that time, my work has been featured on the New England and New York Hockey Journals, HockeyIndependent.com and SB Nation, among others. I am forever grateful for these opportunities and for the personal and professional growth I have been able to achieve through them. Now, the time has come for a new challenge.
Within the next handful of months, I will be leaving Boston for a relocation to the Tampa area. While the amazing weather and beautiful Florida coastline may be tops on the list of things I’m most looking forward to in my journey south, Lightning hockey is certainly a close second. There are definitely more than a few reasons for Bolts’ fans to be excited about the upcoming hockey season and we’ll certainly delve into a few of those here before the season kicks off in October. I’ve made a conscious effort to keep an eye on the Bolts over the past year or two in Boston, but without the benefit of watching them on a nightly basis, it’s impossible to get the true feel for a team. However, I do look forward to tackling the challenge of acclimating myself to both a new team and an all new city. This will be a learning process for me in more ways than one. Lastly, I would like to thank my good friend and colleague WB Philp, the venerable Editor-In-Chief and Founder here at Lightning Shout, who has given me the wonderful opportunity to share my thoughts on Lightning hockey with all of you. I look forward to getting to know all of you.
Be sure to check back later for my first column series of the season, where we will project the production that lies ahead in 2014-15 for each of Tampa Bay’s forward lines.
