TSN released their annual list of the Top 50 NHL players earlier this week. While it’s no surprise that Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins remains in the top position for the fifth straight year, it is eye opening at Steven Stamkos’ continued rise in the rankings.
Each year a panel of NHL coaches, general managers and TSN experts cast their votes on who they believe to be the best of the best in the league. The Tampa Bay Lightning’s young captain made this year’s list in the number three spot, behind Crosby and Chicago’s Jonathan Toews.
Stamkos first appeared on the 2010 list in the number ten spot. In 2011 he moved to sixth and to fourth place in 2012 and 2013.
Stamkos spoke with TSN about his movement on the list, gave his choice for top player in the NHL, and his continued recovery from suffering a broken leg last fall. He also displays his gift of endless memory, when it comes to his goals. Listen to him here.
