Welcome to Week Six of the ABC Original Family Series Race to QB Mountain watch list. With the Bills on a tear at 3-1 and perhaps 4-1 after Cincinnati, the thoughts for this project continue – as I love college football and want to see all of these guys tear it up in the NFL, whether it’s with the Bills or not.
Last Week Thoughts
As always, if you want a little analytics with your chat, PFF has a great roundtable looking at that side of the ledger for the gents we discuss #onhere.
With USC falling late to Wazzu in part because of Darnold’s late game heroics gone wrong, it’s interesting to see him excused in some circles and Falk not getting as much love. Josh Allen and Josh Rosen were seen as the meh twins, even though Rosen has thrown more than almost all of his competition. Rudolph was ok – and because we’re not near bowl season yet, all of these men will have a chance to “shine” a bit more once they get into the meat of their schedules.
NFL Team Check ins:
The 0-fer four (Cleveland, New York Giants, LA Chargers and San Francisco) could all go for quarterback, but the real stories right now have to do with the 1-3 trio (Cincinnati, Chicago and Indianapolis). Out of these seven teams, I can see five if given the chance jumping on a quarterback, with Chicago and Indy being the teams to use their spot should it hold as a place to trade up to – and get their quarterback much needed help.
Games to Watch this Weekend: (All times EST)
Thursday
Louisville at NC State (ESPN) – Lamar Jackson throws for over 350 yards, but the pick six at the end, coupled with the great NC State offensive game plan was too much to overcome. I would recommend watching it on WatchESPN if you have the app – as I love to watch draftees struggle as much as succeed, as life in the NFL will not be a bed of roses for them.
Saturday
Iowa State at Oklahoma (12pm, FOX) – Mayfield versus Iowa State should have the cops called in by the 3rd quarter. Send help.
Ole Miss at Auburn (12pm, SEC Network) – Stidham against Ole Miss is another opportunity for the former Baylor QB to show his wares in an “Auburn friendly” environment versus an opponent in Ole Miss that shouldn’t be overwhelming.
Oregon State at USC (4:00pm, Pac-12 Network) – The “can Darnold rebound” band will be playing the hits going into this game. Oregon State’s defense is a fun one to watch, so seeing how the presumptive number one quarterback will be exciting.
Washington State at Oregon (8:00pm, FOX) – Another shoot out and Taggart’s offense will keep me as excited as Mike Leach’s squad.
Western Kentucky at UTEP (8:00pm, GOOD LUCK) – Not much for me here, as I won’t be watching Mike White until the off-season.
That’s it for this week. Tweet us and let us know if we’ve missed a QB you’ve had your eyes on!
