I Don’t Know Much About Baseball, It Seems

SHRUG

The bar for having a blog is low.

Very low.

If you’ve got an internet connection, a couple bucks for hosting and some spare time to type words or create memes… you, too, can be a blogger.

There are no checks.

There are no balances.

I say all this because maybe you come to this site often – maybe you don’t – but if you scroll down this page, you’ll see enough flip flops that you’ll think that I have no idea what I’m talking about.

And you wouldn’t be wrong.

Truth is the 2017 Cardinals have made me look like an idiot so many times, that I’m having trouble figuring out what to write

They’re in my head, if you will.

I’ve created numerous posts that excoriate the team for lousy play and lousier roster management only to be treated to extended win streaks and excellent baseball.

I’ve gotten fired up and thrown myself at the mercy of the team almost to immediately be head-butted with what seems like complete surrender.

Maybe other content creators feel different… but I’m genuinely confused.

I mean, I knew I didn’t know the most about baseball.

But I didn’t think I knew so little, either.

+++++

The Cardinals beat the brakes off the Reds on Tuesday night to push their record to a season high 8 games over .500.

They are on a 4 game winning streak and sit only 2 games back of the Cubs for the NL Central lead.

By all accounts, we should be fired up. I should be fired up.

And yet.

And yet.

Those 7 games against the Cubs – over 1/3 of the remaining season – loom real large. As hot as the Cardinals are and as deep in the season as we are there are still several outcomes in play:

  1. Cubs could win the division by 5+ games
  2. Cards could win the division
  3. Brewers could win the division
  4. Cards could lose the division by 5+ games
  5. Something else
  6. Something else
  7. :0
  8. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
  9. ಠ_ಠ

And so on.

I guess I’m just going to try and enjoy the ride as best I can.

Maybe there is something to that old cliche… just take it one game at a time.

We’ll see.

Oh, and just in case you were wondering, I do know more about baseball than I’ve led on these past 5 months.

Promise.
