I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…someone needs to get Chipper Jones off the internet.
Friday night, the Atlanta Braves legend channeled his inner conspiracy theorist again (more on that in second) and tweeted some dumb stuff about the December 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre that ended with 20 young children and 6 adults dead.
Perhaps recognizing his error (let’s hope), he deleted the tweet a few hours later and Saturday afternoon, he even apologized for it.
My apologies for my Sandy Hook tweet yest. I had heard something from someone which I thought to be credible and tweeted w/out researching.

It was irresponsible of me to do that and will not happen again. Please accept my heartfelt apology to those who were hurt or offended.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) February 7, 2015
Apology or not, the damage was already done. And, as you might expect, his initial comments weren’t taken lightly.
.@RealCJ10 As the daughter slain Sandy Hook principal, allow me to shed some light: http://t.co/k1ib6uvKl2#doyourhomework#asshat

.@RealCJ10 Come for dinner. You can meet my grandmother-less children and I'll show you my mom's clothes riddled with bullet holes.

In case you didn’t figure it out, Christina Hassinger is the daughter of Dawn Hochsprung, Sandy Hook’s principal at the time of the shooting and one of killer Adam Lanza’s first victims inside the school. She’s spent the last two years speaking out against gun violence.
Jones can apologize, but this isn’t the first time he’s gone all “conspiracy theorist” on us. Back in November 2012, the eight-time All-Star sat down and watched “JFK” on REELZ and decided to voice his displeasure with, of all things, the findings of the Warren Commission.
What a crock of crap! Oswald killed Kennedy? Seriously? Sorry, but I'm watching JFK. It's almost laughable what they want us to believe.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) November 15, 2012
Anyone who has ever fired a rifle and watched the Zapruder film, will tell you the fatal headshot came from the grassy knoll. C'mon people!!
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) November 15, 2012
JFK is on REELZ. Zapruder footage is coming on soon. Check it out. Oswald is behind JFK and to the right. No way he fired the kill shot.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) November 15, 2012
Read the Warren Commission Report. I have. It's a crock. No way Kennedy's head moves back and to the left, if shot from the back.
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) November 15, 2012
And it’s also not the first time Jones has put his foot in his mouth and had to backpedal. Who can forget that time he told the Rutgers basketball team to “toughen up”?
I got cursed at and called names by a ton of people growing up. Were they fired? Nope! Do I care? Nope! What's the big deal? Toughen up!
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) April 3, 2013
Or how about that time he had some suggestions on how to keep “illegals” out of the country?
Y'all think if they took all them gators they trap in Fla and La and put them in the Rio Grande, it wud stop the illegals from crossing? Jk
— Chipper Jones (@RealCJ10) June 8, 2013
And, naturally, the subsequent apology.
I realize that my tweet yest was offensive and distasteful. An attempt at humor was a terrible mistake. Please accept my heartfelt apology!

Man, to have been a fly on the wall of the Braves clubhouse when Jones and fellow comedian John Rocker were teammates! I can only imagine the conversations those two good old boys used to have.
Maybe it’s time for Jones to quit Twitter again.
