He’s baaaaaaack.
Vowing never to say never, folks…Jose Canseco is back in organized baseball. Again.
The 1988 American League MVP inked a deal with the Pittsburg Diamonds of the Pacific Association, the team announced on Friday.
“It is historic because he is by far the highest everyday player to play in our league, and he is returning to the East Bay,” Diamonds general manager Tom Macari said.
“We are excited to have Jose Cansecoon the team. He will not only bring power and excitement to the ballpark, but will also be able to coach some of our players,” majority owner Khurram Shah added. “He has an incredible knowledge about hitting and playing the game at a high level.”
The 52-year-old former slugger will be making his debut August 7 when the Diamonds take on the Sonoma Stompers and, according to the team…he’ll be the starting pitcher.
But that’s not all.
I will also be playing every day with the Pittsburg diamonds independent baseball team in California from August 4th through September 1st

This isn’t Canseco’s first stint in the Pacific Association. Last season, he pulled a similar stunt…playing two games for the Stompers and six for the Diamonds. He’d manage just six hits in 33 plate appearances.
