STAR OF THE GAME: Tim Wakefield: 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 K

GAME NOTES: Pathetic? Futile? Uninterested? Many words can be handpicked to describe the awful Red Sox offensive display Friday afternoon, a truly forgettable effort that included Rangers starter Robinson Tejeda throwing just 77 pitches in 7 innings. What happened to the OBP-laden Red Sox approach of working counts and tiring pitchers? Why all of the lame popups on hittable fastballs? Maybe they had tee times to make, I frankly don’t know. They must turn it around and wake up the bats for Kevin Millwood, because Tavarez isn’t going to throw a masterpiece any time soon. Let’s work some counts, be patient, get quality AB’s and tire out Millwood, and please get some occasional runs. It helps win baseball games.
