GAME NOTES: Can’t ask for much more than what we saw Tuesday. Home opener, ’67 ceremony, beautiful yet nippy day at the Pahk, wonderful Beckett performance, offensive explosion from the lot, near bench clearing brawl….just a perfect day all around. Jason Varitek is apparently functioning with a pulse after breaking out with 3 hits, 3 RBI and even a double. Julio Lugo reached base all 4 times he strolled to the plate. Hell, even Mr. Crisp delivered with a nice ground rule double that could have been a triple if not for fan interference. I hope we didn’t waste it all Tuesday because the real test comes today. Felix Hernandez, who absolutely dominated the A’s in his first start, will face Daisuke Matsuzaka in what could be the most exciting April games in history…including the Ichiro-Matsuzaka angle. Tonight will be cold again and we saw Dice-K can handle that, so I’m not concerned. Keep the bats hot and let’s put up 14 more, hey! (I’ll take 3 and a W).
