GAME NOTES: We’re going to try to salvage this series and avoid a sweep. Ever since leaving a 6-4 homestand, we’ve gone 0-2 and the euphoria over the hot start is starting to dissapate (or already has). There’s still plenty of baseball to play, but I believe it’s apparent how “thin” our lineup is, or rather, how much we need Coco Crisp. It makes me a little nervous as to what we’ll do when the next injury strikes, and it also makes me wish that Francona used Willie Harris as a 25th man on the bench, not as a platoon starter. Start Mohr in center all the time. Clement’s going to try to right the ship and save the bullpen from being taxed. Jermaine Van Buren was sent down after the game last night for Manny Delcarmen. Van Buren had an encouraging three-inning stint yesterday, but this move was made out of necessity rather than convenience. Clement saving the bullpen tonight can go a long way, and the thin offense will have a chance to look like the ’03 Red Sox (hey, look, it’s supplanted the ’27 Yankees as the offensive team of choice!) for a night.
