GAME NOTES: The mind of Jon Lester will be more clear in his second start since his triumphant return from cancer. He’s just another player now as Jon toes the hill in the second of three games against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Last night, the Sox struggled against starter Jason Hammel before the 90 pitch count and the Rays bullpen entered play. They’ll try to get off to a better start vs. James Shields, who gave up 10 runs and 10 hits last Sunday at Yankee Stadium in just 3.1 IP. If the Yanks offense can handle Shields, so can Boston’s. Big Papi has 2 HR in 5 AB against Shields. With Dice-K going tomorrow, a sweep could be in the fold if Lester can step up tonight.
