GAME NOTES: So now I’m not angry – just resigned. I’m certainly hopeful for the future of the Red Sox. The next several years should be fun to follow, but right now, I see no hope at all of defeating the Yankees. Not because we can’t – but because of the financial structure. The Red Sox have a payroll $73 million more than the Royals. The Red Sox have hit the wall, and cannot spend anymore than a $120 million payroll. Meanwhile, the Yankees are $74 million larger than the Red Sox ($143 million more than the Royals!) and have no money constraints whatsoever with luxury tax breaks and eventual revenue heading their way from the new Yankee Stadium being built.

We have a brighter future encompassing the next 10 years as we look at the farm system, but the year-to-year belongs to the Yankees and it always will. It’s time for a fair, level, playing field.

It’s time for a hard salary cap.

Anyways, we’re heading on a West Coast swing, and first up is rookie lefty Joe Saunders, who finally cracked the major league rotation of the Angels. Also, the Angels just swept the Mariners.

I think at this point, we just need to root for the Red Sox and hope we win every game. If we miss the playoffs, at least we went out playing hard.
