08/23: This Loss Wasn't Demoralizing PRIOR GAME AGAINST OPPONENT: Angels 4, Red Sox 3 on 8/22/06

DECISION: W: Scot Shields | L: Kason Gabbard | S: Francisco Rodriguez

STAR OF THE GAME: Kyle Snyder – 5 IP, 9 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

GAME NOTES: The star of the game choice may be odd to you, but I liked what Snyder gave us tonight, especially after pitching twice against the Yankees. Snyder’s on my “like to root for” list. A hard fought game, we just didn’t come up on the winning end. I was glad to see this team play the way it did – hard. It didn’t roll over and die. But Manny needs to come back soon to protect Ortiz! I feel strangely confident in this team over the rest of the year, I think we can give the playoffs a real shot.

In other news, a Yankee fan wants to gloat. When will they ever learn? I never gloat. Sure, I rejoiced in 2004, but I certainly did not gloat. I make it a point never to gloat, because it can always be turned back on me. Yankee fans learned the hard way in 2004, but I guess they really haven’t learned after all. What if the Sox sweep the four-game series in Yankee Stadium at September? (Dear Yankee fans who read Fire Brand: Thank you for reading, but please refrain from leaving a comment along the lines of “You won’t sweep the 4 game series in Yankee Stadium so forget that and shut up!” You simply don’t know. So don’t say it.)

Anyways, if he wants to gloat, then fortunately, I have but four numbers to say: 2004. That ends that debate. And just to keep it going, here you go. I always dish out what people dish me, but I never do the initial dishing.

Now that that’s over with, we’ve got a series to win. Get to it, Jon!
