Wanted to get this one off earlier in the day before I headed off to basketball, but the AVCA didn’t post in time.
For the first time in several weeks, the top of the poll is of interest to me. In some order or another, it’s been BYU, UC Irvine, and Long Beach State in the top 3 spots for the last month’s worth of polls, but the Pepperdine Waves crash the party today, supplanting Long Beach State as the #3 team in the nation, garnering one first-place vote (BYU still got all the others) and coming within 3 points of surpassing UCI for second. It was a good week for the Waves, but I didn’t know it was that good.
A little further down the poll, Ohio State leapfrog Northridge for the #8 position, while the Matadors now find themselves in a tie for #9 with the UCSB Gauchos. In another leapfrog, Cal Baptist now surpass Hawaii, with the Lancers at #11 and the Warriors at #12. Penn State interestingly remain moored at #13, and the Loyola Ramblers, hot off their win over Lewis, enter the poll at #14. The voters continue to test my sanity by ranking USC, as the Trojans at 4-13 remain in the nation’s top 15, although at the very bottom of it.
The 16th team, by the way, was a bit of a surprise to me as it’s IPFW who lead the ‘also receiving votes’ section. You can view the complete poll here.
