1 More descending player: #0 Junior Galette

When The Saints Nation fellow Blogger Patrick Orly started writing about top 5 players in descent I took a stab at what his other 4 players (see the comments on #5, Drew Brees). I missed out on Buckley, terribly. Of course the Saints NT position is a bit in trouble with John Jenkins not performing well last year and the Saints not drafting Danny Shelton, because he was gone.

The one I put in place was Junior Galette. By now it is like kicking in an open door, but I will place my reasoning here anyway because I promised that. It is hard to place him. There have been replacements drafted, quite some talent actually, so it could be #6 in terms of “need”, but by the way it looks now, it is reasonable a suspension is coming up, he has to be replaced right now. Also counting down to 1, then follows 0. So without further adieu:

#0 Junior Galette

Junior Galette

Contributions: I am not an expert on player value. The Saints did award him with a 40+ million 4 year extension (excuse me if I am off a year or something). The point is; he is one of the top edge rusher guys. Even last year he had 10 sacks.

Why he’s descending: Physically he has not been troubled except for the pectoral injury which is a new issue. That would lower his production. He didn’t have to get surgery, but we did see him in a hospital bed… Because he has yet found an other social media outlet to post his stupid stuff on.
The real thing why he is descending is not physical. He is mentally reverting to infant state. He is doing stupid stuff. As it turns out is was even 2 year ago that he did that; “defending” himself needing a belt, whilst being a fully trained Top NFL D-Linemen, a position which arguably has the best skill set to take a guy out. He is an infant because he is not owning up to anything. In his mea culpa addressing the press for the first time since the recent incidents he said, and I paraphrase: “If this had happened 6 years ago it would not have been in the media like this”. Well sure because you would have been a nobody. That does not make the things that happened right! Some woman going mental in your house is your fault. What is someone like that doing there anyway? Why hang with those people? The age of 6 was reached yesterday when he posted a movie on yet an other social media outlet. I tweeted:

All this stupid stuff makes the Saints want to get rid of him. So he is a goner in my eyes where as the rest of the guys on the list are still capable of making the roster even next year.

Replacement: Saints have addressed the position in this draft already. They have drafted Kikaha in the 2nd round and Tull in the 5th. They also have signed Anthony Spencer from Dallas, who played already under Rob Ryan. It is not as if the position has been neglected. The Saints are more then ready to have the next man up for Galette’s position. That does not mean these guys are at the level Galette is at now. Kikaha sure has the ceiling as high, if not higher as Galette, but he is still a rookie. Spencer is in decline, a veteran who should be good rotation-ally. Tull is also a rookie but more of a project. The position will be filled and depth looks good now, but the top has a lower peak then with Galette at the position.

2015 outlook: It would not surprise me if he does not play a single snap the whole season. If it were not for the fact that he can’t be cut, he would have been. This guy is someone the Saints do not want in their locker room. My beliefs are the Saints will wait till what Goodell has to say about him. Then after that, they will decide what to do. According to Galette himself it will be in the next week that he has a meeting with Goodell. Brady has already been seen going in to give testimony own his own case. Within a few days after the ruling we will get a response from the Saints I bet.
