Mike Foltynewicz, SP, Atlanta Braves
2017 fWAR: 1.8
2018 fWAR (so far): 2.1
The Atlanta Braves have been one of baseball’s biggest surprises thus far. In order for something like that to happen, the club has needed to get unexpected production from different places on the roster. You can count ol’ Folty among that bunch adding to the positive side of the equation.
His current 2.66 ERA through 101.2 inning would be good regardless of the context. However, this is a guy who hasn’t finished a year with an ERA below 4.31 since debuting in 2014.
Prior to a rough 17.2-inning stretch this month (5.02 ERA), the bearded right-hander saw a nice progression in his ERA (2.53, 2.57, 1.13), and wOBA allowed (.296, .294, .188).
